How to read a rating

Each factor uses a progressive 1–5 scale. The number shows how strongly that factor applies.

One cook’s “I sharpened my knives last year once” can be another cook’s “I must be Albert Einstein,” so the longer descriptions keep the guidance useful without taking itself too seriously.

Effort Factor

The hands-on work, repetition, and attention required—because reading the recipe does not technically count as prep.

Time Value

How well the time invested pays you back in convenience, flavor, or future meals.

Modability

How safely the recipe accepts substitutions, preferences, and pantry improvisation without triggering a system error.

Replay Value

How happily the dish reheats, returns for another meal, or unlocks a useful second life.

Menu Rating

The Geek Menu’s overall editorial verdict on the finished recipe, including whether the quest was worth the dishes.

Community Rating

The combined experience of readers who made the recipe and lived to report back.
